(12/16/14) Warwick – Richela A. “Rikki” Sweeney, 67, who died Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Kent Hospital, was the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Bertha L. (Hadfield) Sweeney, Jr. She is survived by her two daughters: Cynthia A. Woolley of West Warwick and Richela J. Hunter of Warwick; one brother: Phillip H. Sweeney of Coventry; two grandsons: Christopher Ferrazzano and Gennaro Ferrazzano III both of Warwick; three nieces: Pumpkin, Tammy & Heidi Sweeney; one nephew: Matthew Sweeney and her beloved Maine Coon Cat, Rudy. Rikki was a chef and an owner of Sweeney\’s Restaurant and Catering, Providence and of Rikki Sweeney\’s, Cranston. She was one of the leaders of the Providence Taxpayer\\’s Association. As a volunteer fundraiser, Rikki held events to assist the Providence Animal Rescue League and the Providence Police Department. She also catered numerous parties and events for companies in the restaurant’s neighborhood. During the Blizzard of \’78, the restaurant not only served as a shelter for folks stranded by the storm, it also offered assistance and meals to workers from Narragansett Electric and Providence Gas who were called into the City to restore service. The restaurant also provided numerous meals to those stranded downtown in the Providence Journal Building and in the Providence Public Library. Rikki loved to travel. She enjoyed listening to Oldies, especially the Beach Boys, and she loved to ski, especially in New Hampshire. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 18 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick.
