(12/30/14) DESSERT, Norman B., 90, formerly of the Pawtuxet Valley, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at the Albany Medical Center, Albany, New York. He was the beloved husband of the late Theresa J. (Parenteau) Dessert. Born in Coventry, he was the son of the late Henri J. and Odina (Roy) Dessert. He resided in Rhode Island and Florida for many years. Mr. Dessert was a US Marine Corps veteran who proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was initially a lace weaver after the war, then a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in West Warwick and Florida for 28 years before retiring in 1986. He was a life member of the American Legion West Warwick, Post 2, the Marine Corps League, VFW Post 2206 in Lake City, FL, Disabled American Veterans and the National Association of Letter Carriers. While living in Florida he founded the Central Florida Rhode Island Club. He is survived by five children, Norma Tyler and her husband Peter of Niverville, NY, Kenneth Dessert and his wife Andrea of Lake City, FL, Dennis Dessert and his wife Carol of Coventry, Steven Dessert and his wife Kathryn of Howard, OH and Karen Lanning and her husband Brian of Collierville, TN; a sister, Irene Nadeau of Cranston; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. His funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 at 9:30 am from the HENAULT-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 5 Eddy St., West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am in SS. John and James Church, 20 Washington St., West Warwick followed with military honors. Visiting hours Friday 4-7 pm.
