William “Bill” Schmiedeknecht – Providence, RI

(06/23/15) Schmiedeknecht, William \\”Bill\\” F., 76, passed away while surrounded by his family at his home in Providence on Tuesday, June 23, 2015. He was married for 55 astonishing years to his wife Jean L. (Lea) Schmiedeknecht. He was born in Shelby, MI to the late Clarence and Elsie (Easton) Schmiedeknecht. Bill founded Precision Metals in 1974, where he successfully ran the business for 30 years as President. For years he had been a member of Crestwood Country Club in Rehoboth, MA, Harmony Lodge #9 F. & A.M., and a 32nd degree member of Scottish Rite. He was the past President of the Jewelers and Silversmiths Management Association and the PTL at the St. Paul\\’s Christian Day School, and a former Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Providence. He recently attended Christ Community Church where he truly enjoyed worshipping with his family and friends. Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1959. Besides his career and community accomplishments; Bill focused his attention on his family. He was a kid at heart and easily caught the attention of his grandchildren whom he doted over. Many memories were made whether it was on his boat, in the kitchen preparing his famous oyster and shrimp chowder or simply witnessing him build his own car. He will be remembered as a friendly, approachable man that always found time for not only his family but friends as well. Besides his wife Jean; he is survived by three sons: William Schmiedeknecht Jr. and his wife Carolyn of North Kingstown, Wayne Schmiedeknecht and his wife Patricia of Cranston and Adam Schmiedeknecht and his wife Kristin of Cranston; five grandchildren: Wayne Jr., Michael, Lane, Jack and Grace Schmiedeknecht; a predeceased sister Betty Lou and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of two predeceased children, Michael David and Judith Anne, who passed at a very young age. A Celebration of Bill\\’s Life will be held at Christ Community Church, 224 Woodward Road in Providence, RI 02904 on Thursday, July 2 at 5 PM. Should friends desire, donations may be made to either: Christ Community Church (Benevolent Fund) or to the Scandinavian Home, 1811 Broad Street, Cranston, RI 02905.
