(05/13/14) North Providence – Ernest F. Coit, Jr., 76, of North Providence went to be with his mother in heaven on May 11, 2014. He peacefully passed surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Lenore K. (Goldstein) Coit for 28 years. Born in Providence and raised in West Warwick, he was the son of the late Jeannette (Catalano) Coit and the late Ernest F. Coit. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Ernest F. Coit III of Pawtucket and Scott W. Coit, Sr. of Lincoln; one brother, George Coit and his wife Pat of Texas; one sister, Linda Forcelli and her husband, Tony of North Kingstown; and his best friend of 64 years, Robert Bates; his stepchildren, Howard Fain (wife Margaret), Marc Fain (wife Tamara), Terri Ciolfi (husband Larry), and Jerry Fain (wife Lisa). Ernie had thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was an insurance agent for 47 years, operating his own agency with Nationwide Insurance in Pawtucket for over 42 years. He earned numerous awards, including the National Quality, Multi-line Sales and Sales Achievement Awards from the National Association of Life Underwriters for service to his policyholders. Five years in a row he was in the top 3 for life policy sales (out of 4600 agents). He graduated from John F. Deering (West Warwick) High School. He was a neighborhood commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the honor of Eagle Scout. He was a baseball coach for the Town of Lincoln. He was chairman of his 50th high school class reunion and was the president of Partners Without Partners for 2 years where he met his sweet lady, Lenore. Ernie was an avid Red Sox fan and was a follower of Providence College Men’s Basketball. He and Lenore traveled to games with the team all over the country including Hawaii and Paris, France. Ernie loved travel and fine dining. He wintered in Florida. He enjoyed time with his family at their summer home on Wakefield Pond. As an avid fresh water bass fisherman, he fished many times in the Florida Everglades and was recognized in Bass Masters Magazine for landing a 10 lb. 11 oz. fresh water bass. His Prayer Service will be celebrated FRIDAY, MAY 16 at 11 A.M. at Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1 Rhode Island Avenue, Johnston.
