(09/15/14) Cumberland – Gordon V. Carr, 78, of Mendon Road died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. He was the beloved husband of Claudia A. (Cenci) Carr. He was a lineal descendent of Colonial Governors Caleb Carr and Joseph Jenks. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Alfred B. and Loretta C. (McChrystal) Carr, he had lived in Lincoln for most of his life before moving to Cumberland 10 years ago. Mr. Carr was a business education teacher at North Providence High School for 31 years retiring in 1989. He also taught at Johnson & Wales University (Veterans Program) and Sawyer Business School (Accounting and Tax Practices). He received his B.S. Degree in Business Education from Bryant College in 1958 and his Master’s Degree in Education from Boston University in 1961. He served in the Rhode Island National Guard and was a member of the American Philatelic Association. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge #8, F. & A.M., Lincoln. He was the former auditor of Sayles Memorial Church and the Saylesville Fire District, both of Lincoln. Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving son, Benjamin Caleb Carr (Alexandra) of Brooklyn, NY. Always a teacher, Gordon’s body was donated to Brown University Medical School for research. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 at 7 P.M. at BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Relatives and friends are invited and may call WEDNESDAY 4-7 P.M.
