(04/05/14) West Greenwich – Linda MacKenzie, 54, died Saturday, April 5, 2014 at home. She was the beloved wife of Scott MacKenzie. Born in Providence, a daughter of Wilton F. Sjogren Jr. of Morriston, FL and the late Norma A. (Marland) Sjogren, she graduated from Coventry High School in 1977. For over twenty years she had worked as a Veterinarian Tech at Tiogue Veterinary Clinic in Coventry. Linda was also an accomplished dog breeder, showed dogs as a professional dog handler and was also invited to show at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Her invitation to Westminster was the result of several specialty wins with her English Setter, Tucker. In addition to handling Tucker, Linda successfully brought several breeds in the Sporting Group category to their championship. She was also a member of Eastern Springer Spaniel Club and English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association. In addition to her husband and father she is survived by her son Justin C. MacKenzie of West Greenwich; her sister Karen Sjogren of Coventry; her brother William Sjogren of West Greenwich and by her nieces & nephews. (04/09/14) William “Bill” Souza, 69, of Tiverton, husband of Patricia A. “Pat” (Medeiros) Souza, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, April 8, 2014. A union carpenter he was a member of Local 94, Carpenter’s Union. He was a “jack-of-all-trades” and loved working on cars, especially his ‘69 Camaro. He also enjoyed watching TV, especially wrestling and the Red Sox. Besides his beloved wife of 47 years, he leaves his sister-in-law, Geraldine Grondin of Westport and his godchildren, Cathy Kalwak of Middletown, Wendy D’Abrosca and her children Michaela Silvia, Samuel Harstad and Gabriel Harstad all of Westport and Kenneth Dias of Tiverton. He was the son of the late William R. Souza and Irene C. (Vincent) Costa and the stepson of the late Manuel S. Costa. Born in New Bedford, MA. September 27, 1924, a daughter of the late Isaac and Helena (Magnett) Gracia. Mrs. Evans worked in Social Service for the John Hope Settlement House. She was the wife of the late Charles J. Bejma and the late Albert W. Johnson. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of the late Paul W. and Mary I. (Davis) Pelen, she had lived in Pawtucket for most of her life. Mrs. Bejma was the International Traffic Manager for Teknor-Apex, Pawtucket for many years before retiring. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pawtucket where she was a former member and Past President of its Women’s Guild. She was a member and Past Matron of Seekonk Chapter #209, Order of the Eastern Star, Seekonk, MA; an honorary member and Past President of the Pawtucket Women’s Club; and a Past President of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Rhode Island. She is survived by one daughter, Jayne L. Bellows and her husband, Bradford of Cumberland; one son, Robert A. Johnson of Pawtucket; one stepdaughter, Bethany L. Force and her husband, Mark of Seekonk, MA; one brother, Paul T. Pelen and his wife, Susan of Milford, DE; seven grandchildren; three great grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late William L. Pelen. Ann’s funeral will be celebrated on her 91st birthday on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16 at 8:30 A.M. from BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln with a Requiem Eucharist at 10 A.M. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 50 Park Place, Pawtucket. (04/14/14) Richard R. \”Rick\” Bartley, Jr., 55, of Hoopers Lane, Canterbury, CT, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the William W. Backus Hospital, Norwich, CT. Born in Providence, RI he was the son of the late Richard R., Sr. and Hazel (Leonard) Bartley. Richard was a restaurant manager for JAN Company of Cranston, RI for twenty-nine years. He was a US Army Air Force Veteran serving during peacetime. He is survived by a daughter; Sara J. Bartley and her fiancé Scott F. Erno, two step daughters; Courtney M. Reichenbach and Kristina M. Reichenbach, a companion; Linda M. Langevin, a brother; Keith G. Bartley and his wife Rosemary, a sister; Judith A. Bartley and a granddaughter; Peyton J. Erno. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 6:00 pm in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home & Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. (04/14/14) Laurie E. (Debigare) Whipple, 57, of West Broad Street, Pawcatuck, passed away on Wednesday evening, April 9, 2014 at the Westerly Hospital. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Robert L. Whipple. She is survived by her parents, Joseph and Claire (Brodeur) Debigare of Westerly, her sons, Douglass R. and Billy-Joe K. Whipple of Pawcatuck, three step-children, April Pires of Cumberland, Robert Whipple of Lebanon and Joy Mosier of Gales Ferry, eight grandchildren, Aaron, Tristen, Brody, Armando, Olivia, Marissa, Ryan and Emma, her brother, Kevin Debigare, husband of Robin, of Richmond, and her sisters, Joanne Johnson, wife of Paul, and Debora Debigare all of Westerly and her nephews, Andrew, Joseph, Steven, Jefferey, Kenny and Troy. Mrs. Whipple was born in Westerly on June 12, 1956, the daughter of Joseph and Claire (Brodeur) Debigare of Westerly. For many years, she was a supervisor at Foxwoods Casino in Ledyard and formerly worked at the George C. Moore Company of Westerly. Laurie worked all of her life serving the public which she loved. Laurie loved life and kept tabs on her friends even when she could no longer get out to be with them. She was always around to lend a hand or a shoulder and touched the lives of many. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm Street, Westerly. There are no calling hours. Burial will take place at Rhode Island Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Funeral services are under the direction of Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home & Crematory, 64 Friendship Street, Westerly.
