A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Jean-Baptiste and Eugenie (Charette) Theriault. Ray was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He leaves fifteen nieces and nephews; twenty-five great-nieces and nephews and three great-great nephews. Ray was the brother of the late Yvonne C. Langlois, Simonne M. (05/04/14) Helen Butler, age 92, beloved wife of David Butler, died on Saturday, May 3, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She had been married to David for 65 years prior to his death on April 4, 2014. She was born on February 22, 1922 in Pawtucket, RI and was the fifth of eight children born to Mary and Abraham Carter. Helen was a woman ahead of her time, playing on a woman’s softball team in the 1940’s. Once married, Helen managed the home, house, and children while working full time as a seamstress and then a waitress. Family was the main focus of her life – always. She took great pride in her Mid-Eastern heritage and enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing, pickling, family gatherings, and seaside trips. Always an achiever, she learned to swim at age 68. In 1972, she was overjoyed as the next generation made its entrance into the Butler family. She is survived by her six children: Sharon Harrington of Pascoag, Audrey Monti of Ellington, CT, Donna Birt of Pawtucket, David Butler of Tampa, FL, Richard Butler of Stafford Springs, CT and James Butler of Marblehead, MA. Grandchildren Kristin, Russell, Heather, Karen, Lisa, Jennifer, Adam, Kevin, John, Haley, Morgan and Kendall have been a constant source of great pride and activity. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she has eight great grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her two granddaughters, Kristin and Lisa. Helen is also survived by her three sisters: Alice Bessette of Land O Lakes, FL, Florence McDonald of Cumberland, RI and Emily Lagerquist of Seekonk, MA as well as many dear nieces and nephews. Her siblings Charles and Fred Carter, Mae Najjar and Rhoda Zora predeceased her. (Glassey) Sanford Seaward and the late Priscilla M. (Meharg) Seaward. Born in Newton, MA, a son of the late William S. and Inez A. (Corner) Seaward, he had lived in Lincoln for over 65 years. Mr. Seaward worked for the former E. L. Freeman Company in Providence and Pawtucket for over 40 years retiring as a store manager. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a longtime member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Cumberland and had served on numerous boards at the Church. He was a charter member of the Cumberland-Lincoln Community Chorus and a charter member of Encore For Your Pleasure. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Bradford W. Seaward and his wife, Mary Lou of Pomfret, CT; his stepchildren, Susan Sanford of Fall River, MA and Scott Sanford of Cumberland; five grandchildren; one great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Florence was a graduate of Classical High School (\’38) and RI College of Education (\’42) (now RIC). She worked as a social worker in RI before assisting returning WWII veterans as a Red Cross worker at Staten Island, NY. She married her late husband Ed in 1946 following his return from the war. She supported Ocean Tides and the Christian Brothers in Narragansett and volunteered at South County Hospital for many years. She belonged to Pt. Judith County Club, Snug Harbor East Matunuck Civic Association and was a member of Veridames at Providence College, Catholic Daughters of America and was a former member of the South Kingstown Democratic Town Committee. She was an enthusiastic supporter of her husband Ed’s legal, political and judicial careers while at the same time providing a loving home for her family. She enjoyed many other activities with family and friends, especially attending Providence College basketball games, traveling with Ed after his retirement, staying with her daughters Maggie and Patricia and their families in Phoenix, playing cards, knitting, reading mysteries and doing puzzles. In her later years, she looked forward to “Cousins’ Week” and spending time with her many grandchildren. She was blessed with good cheer and common sense and met the challenges and losses in life with grace and dignity. She was very grateful for all of her and Ed’s friends throughout Rhode Island. Florence was truly blessed with a good life and we will miss her very much. Her family is very thankful for the loving care and devotion shown to her by her friend, Barbara Dinucci. They are also appreciative of the compassionate care provided to her by the aides, nurses and doctors of Cathleen Naughton Associates, Home and Hospice Care of RI and South County Hospital. (05/07/14) Melone, Sister Mary Antonella, 86, a Sister of Mercy and a former educator, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Mount St. Rita Health Centre, Cumberland. Born Mary Florence Melone in Cranston, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Rose (Marshall) Melone. She was a 1944 graduate of Cranston High School. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1947 and professed her perpetual vows on August 16, 1953. Sister Antonella\\’s first ministry was service to her religious community, the Sisters of Mercy, from 1950 to 1955. Her teaching ministry began at St. Patrick School, Cumberland, and continued at Immaculate Conception School, West Warwick. In 1958 Sister returned to St. Patrick School, Cumberland, where she remained for twelve years. She was then assigned to Holy Ghost School, Providence, for 3 years and to St. Joseph School, Pascoag, until 1972. In 1972 she was assigned to St. Brendan School, Riverside, where she taught for ten years. In 1982, she was transferred to St. Mary Academy-Bay View where she assisted with the pre-schoolers for a number of years. She also was a neighborhood volunteer until 2002 when she retired to a ministry of prayer at Mount St Rita. Always engaged with people, even in retirement, Sister quietly extended herself to help those in need. Sister Antonella leaves her religious community, the Sisters of Mercy, and nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edmund X. and Eugene J. Melone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Mount St Rita Chapel. (05/04/14) Megan Nicole Briggs, 18, of Liberty Street, Pawcatuck, passed away on Friday evening, April 25, 2014. She is survived by her mother, Lisa M. Brown of Pawcatuck, her father, Michael M. Briggs of CA, her maternal grandmother, Rita L. (Sheldon) Brown of Westerly, her paternal grandmother, Susan J. (Joseph) Briggs and her companion, Billy Gates of Westerly, her sister, Cheyenne L. Taber of Pawcatuck, her half-sister, Marley Briggs of CA, her paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Joseph of Mystic, her uncle Craig and Aunt Laurie Lacas of Ashaway, her uncle Michael and aunt Cindy McGuire of Ashaway, her uncle, Travis Brown of Westerly, her aunt, Rose Macaione of Westerly, her uncle, Malcolm and aunt Jaceil Sheldon of ME, her uncle, James Briggs of Westerly, her uncle, Richard Joseph and his wife Gwen of Mystic and her many cousins, friends and classmates. She was pre-deceased by her maternal grandfather, Charles E. Brown and her paternal grandfather, Norman Briggs. Miss Briggs was born in Westerly on October 8, 1995, the daughter of Lisa M. Brown of Pawcatuck and Michael M. Briggs of CA. She was a senior at Stonington High School who was looking forward to her June 19th graduation. She sent out text messages to her extended family to save the date. Megan had many loves in her life; music, counseling, friends, animals and of course her family. When you saw Megan downtown, there she would be with her earphones on listening to her beloved music. She would be wearing at least one thing in her favorite color orange and her jewelry. Miss Megan’s jewelry consisted of rings, bracelets and necklaces, which she loved to wear. Another thing you would notice is how closely she would listen to her friends, giving counseling to help them through their problems. Megan had been considering going to school to become a counselor. She was an employee at the Spot Café in Groton. Megan was a hard worker and well liked by her co-workers. As much as Megan was busy with school, work and friends, she still found time to be with her family. Throughout the years, the one constant in Megan’s life was the love of animals. Wherever she went, if she saw a dog, cat or any animal, she was drawn to them as they were drawn to her. In Megan’s memory, please consider donating to a local animal shelter. (05/09/14) Cumberland – Grace M. (Atkinson) Jackson, 105, formerly of Scott Road, died Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice, Providence. She was the wife of the late Samuel Jackson. She was a daughter of the late Robert and Anne (Ferguson) Atkinson and had lived in Cumberland for most of her life. Mrs. Jackson was an executive secretary in the textile industry in Norwich, CT and later worked at Ken Rowbottom’s Photography Studio in Cumberland before retiring. She was a member of the former Berkeley Methodist Church, Cumberland and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Lincoln. She is survived by two daughters, Judith A. Cyronak and her husband, Charles of Block Island and Joyce M. Jackson and her husband, Lawrence T. Mello of Tubac, AZ; her grandson-in-law, Michael J. Wrobleski and three great grandchildren, Wanda Grace Wrobleski, Joseph Samuel Wrobleski and Lucy Isabel Wrobleski, all of Providence. She was the grandmother of the late Andra K. Cyronak MD, and the sister of the late Arthur Atkinson, Mary Ellen Learned and Annie McDonald. Her funeral service will be celebrated MONDAY, MAY 12 at 11 A.M. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 55 Woodland Street, Lincoln. Burial will follow in Ballou Cemetery, Ashton. Born in Providence a daughter of the late Antonio and Elizabeth (DiSaia) Ronci. Elena is survived by her beloved children, Kenneth A. Gianinni of Cape Coral FL., Stephen R. Giannini and his wife former State Representative Joanne M. Giannini of Providence and Thomas M. Giannini of Cranston Loving grandmother of Gianna and Thomas Giannini II and Alicia Smith. Sister of Anthony Ronci and his wife Anna and the late Frank C. Ronci, and also survived by many nieces and nephews. Elena was a parishioner of St. Bartholomew\’s Church. She was an excellent cook and homemaker and loved being with her family and friends. Up until three weeks ago she was still cooking dinner every night. Mary enjoyed many years of softball for Coventry Girls Softball. She graduated from Coventry High School in 1992. Mary loved watching her children play soccer and basketball on numerous town leagues. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Facebook kept her in touch with family and friends. She laughed, loved, cried and helped with many. She is survived by two children; Brittany L. (05/08/14) Brum, Vicky L., 45, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. She was the loving Mother of Jessica Hebert and Matthew Brum of Johnston. Born in Warwick, RI she was the daughter of Rita F. (Briggs) Hebert of Johnston and the late Leon R. Hebert. Vicky was a strong and caring person. She enjoyed watching the Red Sox and spending time with her family. She is sadly missed and will be remembered by her amazing personality. Besides her children and mother she is survived by a sister Christine Y. Verrier, a nephew Steven Verrier and her Brother-in-law Leo Verrier.
