(10/06/14) Gladys B. Mansfield, 99, formerly of Bellman Avenue and West Bay Manor, died Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Scandinavian Home in Cranston. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur G. Mansfield to whom, at the time of his death on February 3, 1988, she had been married 46 years. Born in Providence, the daughter of the late Gordon and Elizabeth (Gretton) Bannister, she graduated from Central High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She worked as a bookkeeper for Dr. Kenneth Burton retiring in 1970. She was a member of Woodbury Union Church Presbyterian, Warwick where she served as the Flower Coordinator. She loved to read, especially novels, and she enjoyed cooking. She was a member of the Asbury Coasters and she enjoyed camping with the “Trail Dusters”. She is survived by one son: David R. Mansfield & his wife Roberta of Cranston; one daughter: Carol E. Sullivan & her husband Walter of Warwick; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Elsie Pierce, Gordon and Marjorie Bannister. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM at Woodbury Union Church Presbyterian, 58 Beach Avenue, Warwick. Burial in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston will be private. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Eric and Doris (Benoit) Messier. Mr. Messier was a graduate of John F. Deering High School class of 1964 and attended Bryant College for business. He was employed with Amtrol, Sears Roebuck, The Better Business Bureau of RI and was the proprietor of the former New England Fire Control of Cranston, Junior’s Fruit & Deli in North Providence and Computer Connection, Inc. in Warwick. He is survived by two brothers, Ronald E. Messier of Warwick and Paul H. Messier of West Warwick and two nephews, Neal Messier of Attleboro, MA and Marc Messier of West Warwick. Mabel was the nursing payroll clerk at Memorial Hospital of RI for 17 years until her retirement in 1998. She enjoyed collecting Swarovski Crystal; reading; knitting; crocheting and completing word searches and crossword puzzles. Besides her loving husband, she leaves a brother, William DesRoches and his wife, Toni of Melrose, MA; two sisters-in-law, Patricia DesRoches of Cambridge, MA and Joan DesRoches of Mendon, MA and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was the sister of the late Theodore DesRoches, Jr., David DesRoches, Marie Authement, Jeanne Fitzgerald and Elaine Laffin. He was a custodian in the Pawtucket School Department for many years until retiring over 5 years ago. Coach Al was a former football coach for the Pawtucket Crusaders; Darlington Braves; Seekonk Tigers and the Tolman Tigers. He also coached Darlington Girls Softball and the Slaterettes. Al enjoyed fishing, camping and woodworking. Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late John and Irene (Henault) Skurka. Ron served in the United States Navy veteran during the Vietnam Era. He was a lineman for the former Blackstone Valley Electric Co., now National Grid, for over 30 years. Ron was the proprietor of the Polish-American Citizens Club, Annie St., Pawtucket for nearly 20 years. He was a member and past-president of the F.O.P.A., Lodge #4, Pawtucket; a knight at the St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Council #1472, Valley Falls, and a former member of the Sons of Italy, Pawtucket. Ron was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards. He followed all of the New England sports teams and enjoyed tinkering with just about anything. Above all, Ron was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Besides his loving wife, he leaves two sons, Daniel J. Skurka and his wife, Tracy of Milford, MA and Benjamin N. Skurka and his wife, Nicole of Pawtucket; two step-sons, Todd A. Rigley and his wife, Jennifer of Pawtucket and Timothy G. Rigley and his wife, Terri-Ann of Port Richey, FL; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Caden and Savannah Skurka, Jack, Myah and Leah Rigley and Amber Folan. In her early years, she was employed by Louis Hand Inc. She later was employed for 15 years by Truesdale Hospital as a nurse’s assistant and then by Cherry & Webb for 15 years before retiring. She graduated 1st. in her class at Truesdale Hospital School of Nursing. An avid traveler, she ventured to Brazil, Italy, Portugal, Mexico, Canada and spent her winters in Florida for 28 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Angels Women’s Club, Parents Without Partners and St. Mary’s Rosary Club. Survivors include a daughter, Paula Ferland and her husband Charles of Somerset; a grandson, John Frank, III and his wife Kim; two wonderful great-grandchildren, John M. Frank and his companion Rebekha Caouette and Madison R. Frank; and great-great-granddaughter, Eva Madeline Frank, all of Fall River; a brother, Albert J. Costa of Spring Hill, FL; a nephew, Albert Costa of Swansea and a niece, Donna Talbot of FL. She was the sister of the late Mary Wilson and Hilda Costa; the aunt of the late Carol Gister and the daughter of the late Virginio and Marcelina (Medeiros) Costa. Richard “Dick” H Abramson – Bristol, RI

(10/15/14) Bristol – Richard Henry Abramson, 87, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, Bristol. He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie H. (Hudson) Abramson. Born in Providence, the son of the late Henry N. and Alma H. (Petersson) Abramson and brother of the late Eunice (Abramson) Tuckerman, Dick grew up in Pontiac Village, Warwick and graduated from Lockwood High School in 1945. He then enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard USS Clytie until demobilized in 1946. He earned his living as a distributor for Cott Quality Beverages with his business partner and cousin Dot\’s husband Malcolm Meyer. Dick married Marjorie Hudson in 1956, and they raised their family in Cranston. He had many passions including golfing, woodworking, making furniture for family and friends, and stealing away to the Green Mountains of Vermont where he shared his wife\’s passion for skiing. Marge and Dick retired to their hilltop retreat in Weathersfield in 1982. With the passing of his beloved Marge in 2004, Dick consoled himself on the golf course and working in the Okemo Mountain rental shop. When he could no longer live alone, he came to live with his children and then entered into the care of the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol earlier this year. He is survived by his children: Ruth Riesbeck of Painted Post, NY, Janice Abramson of Portsmouth, VA and Alan Abramson of Warwick; sons-in-law; Mark Riesbeck and William Moore; and daughter-in-law Mabela Abramson; grandchildren: Ian Moore, Caitlin Riesbeck, Allison Moore, John Abramson and Christina Abramson. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life for Richard, to be held at his son Alan\’s home at 22 Patrick Way in Warwick, on Saturday, October 25th, 2014, 2:00 until 5:00. After cremation, Richard joined his wife Marjorie, scattered in their favorite places in Vermont and Rhode Island. The family will also hold a private interment at St. Paul Cemetery in Warwick. He was the loving husband of the late Florence M. (Hogue) Brissette. Born in North Smithfield, he was the son of the late Ernest J. and Cora C. (Robidoux) Brissette. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the RI Army National Guard and in the US Army Reserves from 1947-1961. For over 50 years he worked as a machinist, last employed by Black & Decker, Tampa, FL. He enjoyed golfing and hockey. He is survived by a sister Anita Gagnon of Florida; son: Michael Brissette & his wife Jerri of Burrillville; daughters: A. Suzanne Musial & her husband Joseph of Manville and Diane Coleman & her husband William of Buffalo, NY; grandchildren: Karen Brissette and Dale Musial; great granddaughter: Angelina Musial and many nieces & nephews. She was the founder and co-owner of Phillips Post Road Realty in the mid-1950s and was active in real estate until retirement in the late 1990s. Beverly was a pioneer for women in the real estate industry and in the late 1960s and early 1970s she served on the Board of Directors of the Kent County Board of Realtors. She was also on the Board of Directors for the North Kingstown, YMCA. She was a member St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Warwick. Beverly was quite a flower gardener, an accomplished golfer, and was a member of the Quidnessett Country Club. She was an avid pet lover especially her cocker spaniels. She is survived by two sons: Kurtis A. & his wife Leslie C. Phillips of Atlanta, GA, Dana S. & his wife Maureen A. Phillips of Saunderstown, RI. Besides her sons she is survived by one sister: Jean Brackenbury of North Kingstown, RI; two stepsons: Daniel D. Everson & John E. Everson; two stepdaughters: Mary E. Everson and Catherine \”Peggy\” Hayes; her grandson: Eric J. Phillips of Saunderstown, RI; a nephew: Keb H. Brackenbury and two nieces: Jullee A. Jones and and Janna L. Brackenbury. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 17 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI. (10/18/14) Roland T. Desrosiers, 85, of Fall River, husband of the late Blanche (Senechal) Desrosiers, died Friday, October 17, 2014. An Army veteran and member of Carpenter’s Union, Local 1305, he enjoyed gambling, long walks and monitoring the stock market. He leaves four children, Raymond Desrosiers of Colorado, Katherine Moniz of Florida, Steven Desrosiers of Somerset and Susan Schumann of Fall River; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late John Desrosiers; the son of the late Roland and Alice (Jette) Desrosiers and the brother of the late Janet Goldman, Ann Marie Mello, Pauline Mazzarella, Robert Desrosiers and Raymond Desrosiers. (10/19/14) Pawtucket – Frank Allsup went home to God on October 14, 2014. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island on November 30, 1925. He was pre-deceased by his dad, James Allsup, Mother Jessie Golledge Allsup and sisters, Edith Allsup, Evelyn Goodman Ogden and Joyce Ogden. Frank was a very loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and friend to many. He is survived by his loving wife, Clarinda Majorie Pipes Allsup of 65 years. They were married in Pawtucket on July 30, 1949. In addition, he is survived by his daughter Pamela Beth Allsup Kerlin (Stephen Douglas Kerlin), son David Frank Allsup, (Kate Hunter Allsup), and son Ernest James Allsup, (Debbie Klayer Allsup), grandchildren Gillian Nicole Allsup, James David Allsup, Trevor Michael Allsup, step grand children Ben Mason and Taylor Mason, sister Ethel Allsup Coppolino (Frank Coppolino), brother Walter Allsup (Lois Allsup) sister-in-law Beatrice Pipes Riley and several nieces and nephews. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and always interested in their activities and achievements. Served in the US Navy on the USS Intrepid from October 21, 1943 through December 20, 1946. Worked as an alloy mechanic at Owens Corning Fiberglass. Member of Boy Scouts in Pawtucket. Usher and member of the Men’s Society at St. Martins Church. Member of Jenks Lodge # 24, F. & A.M., and a 33rd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite and Royal Arch as well as a member of the Swords of Bunker Hill. He served as an Advisor for the Pawtucket Chapter Order of DeMolay. Past Patron of Queen Esther Chapter #3 of the Order of Eastern Star. His funeral service, with military honors, will be held Wednesday, October 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. Burial will follow.
