Rita M (Callanan) Trenn – North Kingstown, RI

(03/14/15) Rita M. (Callanan) Trenn, 91, of North Kingstown passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Hopkins Manor. She was the wife of the late Albert J. Trenn. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Emily (Devine) Callanan. Mrs. Trenn was the Supervisor of the Business Office at Rhode Island Hospital, retiring after over 50 years of service. She proudly served in The United States Navy during WW II and was one of the first women to serve overseas in the territory of Hawaii for which she was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific and Victory Medals. A graduate of St. Xavier Academy, she was active in the alumni association. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish in North Kingstown and a former member of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Providence. In addition, she was a member of the National and Ocean State WAVES Organizations, served as State President of the R.I. State Emblem Association and a past president of Emblem Club #1. She was also active at the North Kingstown Senior Center. Mrs. Trenn was known for making the best Irish Soda Bread and made over a hundred loaves each St. Patrick\’s Day for charity. She was the beloved mother of Marcia A. Trenn of North Kingstown, Mary E. Trembley and her husband Dennis of Twin Mountain, NH, Michael J. Trenn and his wife Maureen of Warren, Joseph A. Trenn and his wife Lois of Benson, VT and Thomas G. Trenn and his companion Patricia Glad of Providence. Loving grandmother of eight including the late David E. Trenn. Cherished great grandmother of thirteen. Caring sister of Patricia Cotter of North Kingstown and the late Thomas, Joseph, William and Andrew Callanan and Sr. Frances Callanan, F.M.M. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 8:45 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Francis de Sales Church, 381 School Street, North Kingstown. (03/11/15) Catherine Marie Woodford, 90, of Warwick passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. She was the wife of the late F. William Woodford. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Irene (Fleming) Rowley. Cathy was an avid reader and a graduate of Rhode Island College of Education in 1942. She assisted her husband in the family businesses and taught elementary grades in Ohio and at St. Benedict, St. Kevin and Warwick Neck schools. A devout Catholic, she and her husband attended Marian Movement cenacles, founding a local cenacle that continued for 20 years. Devoted to her family, church and students, she was the beloved mother of David Woodford and wife Donna, Robert Woodford and his late wife Diane Townsend of Warwick, Therese Woodford and husband Andre Pincince, Marge Gramm and husband Joe, and Betsy Clear and husband David. She was cherished by her grandchildren Daniel, Rosie, Marilyn, Justin, Merri, Gabrielle, Jennifer, Adam, Ayla, Rheanna and Molly, and great grandchildren Eve, Hero and Luca. She was the caring sister of Thomas Rowley, Jr. and of the late Irene Fain, Virginia Boyle and Beverly Smiley. Relatives and friends are invited to Visitation on Saturday, March 14, from 9:00-10:00 am in Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home. (03/11/15) Robert T. TRACY, 75, of Harkney Hill Road, Coventry, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Kent Hospital, Warwick. He was the beloved husband of Annette D. (Berube) Tracy, they had been married for fifty years. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Margaret L. (Buchner) Tracy. He lived in Coventry for the past forty-nine years. Mr. Tracy was a mechanical engineer employed by Coventry Narrow Fabrics for many years and for the past thirteen years was with Wayne Mills Company in Pennsylvania. He enjoyed spending time with his family and working on computers. Besides his wife he leaves four daughters, Kim Ferrucci and her husband Richard of Coventry, Karen Cary of West Warwick, Sandra Parenteau and her husband Alan of West Greenwich and Andrea Tracy-St. Martin and her husband Chad of Warwick; nine grandchildren; a great grandson and a sister, Joan Tracy of Worcester, MA. (03/15/15) Pawtucket – Lois E. (Mortimer) Newman, 70, of School Street, died Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Oak Hill Health & Rehabilitation Center, Pawtucket. Born in Providence, a daughter of the Hugh P. and Isabel (Cosgrove) Mortimer, she had lived in Pawtucket since 1962. Ms. Newman had worked for many years as an Account Assistant at Fleet National Bank for twenty years, retiring in 2009. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pawtucket. She is survived by two daughters, Donna L. Newman of Lincoln, and Doreen L. De Sousa of Lincoln; three sons, Paul E. Newman of Pawtucket, Michael J. Newman of Seekonk, Mass., and Jim Newman of Lincoln; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Thursday, March 19 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 50 Park Place, Pawtucket. Burial will follow in Springvale Cemetery, Rumford. (03/15/15) Isabelle M. (Retzloff) Henry, 72, beloved wife of Earl Henry passed away March 12, 2015 at Brentwood Nursing Home surrounded by her loving husband of 41 years and her family. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Isabelle C. (Dean) Retzloff. A 1960 graduate of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. She had worked at Gorham\’s Mfg. Co. Besides her husband, she is survived by her son Michael Bettencourt and his wife Mary of Warwick, and her sisters June Dean of South Kingstown and Carol Corcelli and her husband Ralph of Warwick, her brother Lance Retzloff and his wife Cheryl of Whispering Pines, NC, her daughter in law Amy Rochford and grandchildren Daniel Rockford, Christopher Bettencourt and Keyleigh Bettencourt. She was predeceased by her son David Bettencourt and her brother John Retzloff. She will be sadly missed and never forgotten. He was the beloved husband of twenty-seven years of Frances (Dakake) Ballou. Born in Providence, a son of the late Benjamin S. and Flora (Fletcher) Ballou, he had lived in North Providence for over twenty years. Master Sergeant Ballou served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and R. I. National Guard, in a military career that spanned thirty-seven years, and served the State of Rhode Island under five governors. An avid model builder, he had an extensive collection of model planes and model trains that he enjoyed spending hours tending to. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and the former St. John’s Episcopal Church, Ashton. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #8, F. & A.M., Lincoln. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Laura Parker of Cranston; Faye Ringuette of Cumberland, and Tracey Gibbons of Lincoln; one stepdaughter, Dawn Spardello; four stepsons, Glen Spardello, David Spardello, Gary Spardello, and Shawn Spardello; two sisters, Flora Gardner of Cumberland, and Maggie Hokenson of Florida; three brothers, Roy Ballou of Foster, Benjamin Ballou of Cumberland, and George Ballou of Cumberland; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Michael Keshura. Born in Quebec, Canada, Antoinette, “Toni”, lived in Fall River and Tiverton for most of her life and was a communicant at St. Anne’s, Sacred Heart, and Holy Ghost Churches. She was an accomplished seamstress and also worked in the garment industry as a sewing machine operator at Shelburne Shirt and Floral Fashions. She was a retired member of the I.L.G.W.U.. She enjoyed homemaking, travel, the beach, reading and religious endeavors. She is survived by two sons: Robert Keshura of Portsmouth, R.I.; Michael Keshura and his wife Ann Marie of Swansea; one daughter Mary Ann Fig of Norwich, CT; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Antoinette was the mother-in-law of the late Loretta Keshura, the grandmother of the late David Fig and the great-great-grandmother of the late Trace Callonas. Lapre Excavating Co. for many years and enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. He leaves grandchildren, Elizabeth Wood and her spouse heather Mills-Wood and James R. Lapre, all of Tiverton; great-grandchildren, Timothy and Adam Perry, Kallie, Kaleb and Ethan Mello and Skyler Freitas; siblings, Aurore Lajoie, Normand Lapre, Sister Bernadette Lapre and Loretta Langlais and many nieces and nephews. (03/17/15) Deborah Gendron, 61, of Coventry, Rhode Island, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital following complications from surgery. Born and raised in East Providence, Rhode Island, she was a 1971 graduate of East Providence High School, and remained stalwart in her Townie pride for years to come. Deb worked for forty years as an optician, retiring in 2013 so she could spend more time with her beloved husband and best friend, Joseph R. Gendron, Sr. It is he who survives her, along with the son she cherished, Joseph R. Gendron, Jr., and her grandson, Joseph III. Her memory is also preserved by two generations of neighborhood kids, most of which are now grown, who held her in the highest regard and cherished her hospitality and warm demeanor, many of whom considered her a surrogate mother. Her centrally located home provided a base of operations and a foundation on which indestructible friendships and relationships were built. She was the beloved daughter of Elliott Barnes, Sr. and his wife Christine, also of East Providence, and the sister of Annette Akers, Brenda McLean, Christine Jenkins and Elliott Barnes, Jr. (E.P.). She was the beloved wife of twenty-one years of Christopher Willigan. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Robert J. and Laura (Howard) Ferguson, she had lived in North Providence, before moving to Cumberland seven years ago. Mrs. Willigan worked as an accountant for Textron, and later in administration at Algonquin Gas Co. before retiring. She was a graduate of Bryant College with a B.S. in Accounting. She had a love of quilting and family genealogy, and for her cats, Cali, Rascal, Dreyfuss, Max and Nixie. She was a member of Four Corners Community Chapel, Cumberland. Besides her husband, she is survived by one sister, Beryl Livingston of Foster; six brothers, Wayne Ferguson of Connecticut, Warren Ferguson of North Kingstown, Kendall Ferguson of Smithfield, Howard Ferguson of Glocester, Robert Ferguson of North Providence; and Brian Ferguson of Johnston; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Willis R. and Edith (Almy) Davis. He resided in Tiverton and West Warwick. Mr. Davis was a truck driver with Mrs. Kavanagh’s Bakery Company for many years before retiring. He served with the United States Navy and was an avid sports fan. Sister Kathleen Farley, RSM – Cumberland, RI

(03/17/15) FARLEY, Sister Kathleen, RSM, 90, (Sister Mary Timothy) passed away peacefully at Mount St. Rita Health Centre on Monday, March 16, 2015, with family and Community present and supporting her passage to eternal life. Kathleen spent many happy and accomplished years of ministry in education, health care, and administration. Besides the years of teaching elementary school at St. Mary’s Academy, Bay View, Immaculate Conception, Westerly and SS. Peter and Paul, West Warwick, she also served as principal of four schools in the Providence diocese: St. Margaret, Rumford; St. Timothy and St. Peter, Warwick and St. Theresa School, Pawtucket. She also administered the Greater Woonsocket Catholic Regional School System from 1976-1983, including responsibilities as Personnel and Finance Director. In the Fall River, MA diocese in the 1960’s, she was Principal and Treasurer of Mount St. Mary Academy, Food Service Director and Finance Director for Mount St. Mary Infirmary, and Head of the Business Department at Bishop Feehan High School. Her ‘unofficial title’ at Feehan was costume designer and creative seamstress for several of the student performances – Oklahoma! being her favorite memory. Kathleen’s gifts in Health Care Administration were also recognized by the community in her appointment as Administrator of (then) St. Margaret Home in Providence for working and retired women. When Kathleen chose to relocate to Mount St. Rita following heart surgery in 2012, she was returning to the ministry which she loved and where she had served in the 1980’s as Assistant Administrator, and Director of Personnel and Finance. She had also served as a member of the Sisters of Mercy Provincial Team in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s as Treasurer and Secretary. At the time that Sister Kathleen received The National Catholic Education Associate Principal of the Year Award, she was described by a faculty member as “a woman generous with the gifts of herself – responding with sensitivity and patience to the concerns of others. Having mastered the art of loving with an open hand, she knows how to show friendship just by being.” She leaves a sister, Patricia Farley, RSM; nephews, Robert, John and Richard; a niece, Jane Farley Pontes, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Rev. John F. Farley and Robert V. Farley, as well as her parents, John Francis and Mary Magdalen (Gallagher) Farley. Her wake will be held at Mount St. Rita Health Centre, 15 Sumner Brown Road, Cumberland from 3:00 – 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2015 with a Mercy prayer service at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Mount St. Rita Chapel on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11:00 am. The interment service will take place at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston, following the collation. (03/19/15) Pauline C. (Nadeau) Levesque, 86, of Somerset and Port Charlotte, Florida, wife of Joseph T. “Tom” Levesque, died Monday, March 16, 2015 at Autumn Glen Assisted Living, Dartmouth . A graduate of BMC Durfee High School, she and her husband operated Levesque’s Auto Service, Rodman St., Fall River for many years. She enjoyed singing, dancing, motorcycling, snowmobiling and bike riding. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and member of Portsmouth Senior Center Choral Group, Leon Caravan Order of Alhambra, Family Motor Coach Assn., and Good Sam Club. Besides her husband of 64 years, she leaves two children, Donna L. Fougere of North Attleboro and Brian T. Levesque and his wife Cheryl of Corinth, Texas; grandchildren, Anna Fougere, Timothy Fougere, SSgt. Shawn Levesque, USMC and his fiancée Stephanie Cabral and Nicholas Levesque and his wife Kate; a brother, Raymond Nadeau and his wife Jeanne of Natick and nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Albina (Joubert) Nadeau and the sister of the late Doris Schiavoni (husband late William). The mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by her nephew, Rev. Msgr. John J. Darcy, will be held Saturday, March 28, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Church, 750 So. Main St., Fall River. Burial will be private. (03/17/15) Evelyn Elizabeth Osso, age 86 of Cranston, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 14, 2015, with her family by her side at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence, RI. Born in Chelsea, MA, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Arnold and Clara (Burridge) Christie. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles E. Osso. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandson Adrian. She also had a special bond with her granddaughter Megan, to whom Evelyn was more like a mother. She is survived by three daughters: Claire M. Gendron of Cranston, RI, Charlotte A. Osso-Werner and her husband Franz of Riverside, RI, Evelyn E. Osso of Fairhaven, MA. Besides her children she was the loving grandmother to Megan Ferrazza, and Adrian Werner; she was also the beloved great grandmother to Arianna Castriotta, and Elaina Ferrazza. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Robert F. Christie, and Kenneth B. Christie, and a sister Estelle I Lombardo. Born in Concord, NH, she was a daughter of the late David and Lumina (Demers) Flamand. Mrs. Gravelin resided in Warwick most of her life. Mrs. Gravelin was a member of the Flamand Family Association and the Meadowbrook Terrace Association. She leaves a son, George D. Gravelin of East Greenwich; a daughter, Jeannette R. Kilday of West Greenwich; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her siblings, Marylouise Gibeau, Lucienne Brulotte, Joseph, Peter, George and Albert Flamand. (Duquette) Heuser, they had been married for 35 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Bertha K. Heuser. Mr. Heuser was a department sales manager at Sears & Roebuck in Warwick for 35 years before retiring in 2002. He was a Vietnam War Air Force Veteran, enjoyed car shopping and dining at local restaurants. Besides his wife he leaves, three children, Michele L. Cusick of Warwick, Mark D. Amiot of Hope and Matthew C. Heuser of Warwick; two sisters, Mary T. Binns of San Pedro, CA and Rita H. Martini of South Kingstown and three grandchildren, Rebecca Cusick, Ashley and Kayleigh Amiot. He was the brother of the late Frances A. Heuser. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 9 am from the HENAULT-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 5 Eddy St., West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, Washington St., Coventry.
