(03/21/15) Maurice “Babe” Bernier, 91, of Tiverton, husband of the late Theresa (Peckham) Bernier, died Thursday, March 19, 2015. A member of the Carpenter’s Union, Providence, he was employed by Harvey Probber, Inc., William Bloom and Son and Cooper Woodworking. He enjoyed walking, the beach and cherished time spent with his family. He leaves five children, Carl A. Bernier and his wife Anne-Marie of Swansea, Marc F. Bernier of Datona Beach, FL, Karen M. St. Laurent and her husband Jim of Tiverton, Lita A. Lighty and her husband Cornell of Portsmouth, RI and Eric J. Bernier and his wife Lisa of Dartmouth; grandchildren, Carly, Mandy, Renee, Jon, Kathleen, Charles, Cole, Corey, Jamie, Sara, Emily, Seth and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Reed and Quinn; a brother, Rudolph “Pete” Bernier and many nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Oscar and Eva (Boucher) Bernier and the brother of the late Roland, Arthur, Omer, Rene, Leo and Rev. Adrien Bernier, Yvette Parent, Jeannette Kern, Lucienne Holewka, Gertrude Roberts, Bertha Lagasse and Ida Matuk. Following cremation, his funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Christopher Church, Tiverton. Burial, Pocasset Hill Cemetery. Visitation at the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. (03/21/15) Pauline (Paul) Callahan, 93, of Fall River, died Sunday, March 15, 2015. She was the proprietor of the former Pauline’s Variety Store on Hamlet St. and was employed by the former Edgar’s Dept. Store. She enjoyed walking and dancing. Survivors include 3 daughters, Jacqueline P. Smith of Tiverton, Paula J. Bohun and Joyce B. Botelho, both of Fall River, a sister, Evelyn Marois of New Bedford, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late William and Flora (Smith) Paul and the sister of the late Roland Paul and Doris Caron. Mrs. Callahan donated her body to medical science. (03/22/15) John J. Uzzi Sr., 92, of Westerly, RI died peacefully on March 22, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Lillian (Servidio) Uzzi for over 61 years. Mr. Uzzi was born in Westerly, RI on June 24, 1922. He was the son of the late Paul and Rose Uzzi. John attended Westerly High School in the graduating class of 1941. He served his country in the United States Army as an infantryman during World War II. In recognition of his service, John was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Purple Heart Medal. After the war, he was later discharged in 1946 as a Sargent. He returned to Westerly and continued to operate Uzzi Plumbing, established by his father, a well-known plumbing and heating company serving the Westerly community for over 100 years. In addition to his wife, he will be sadly missed by his daughter, MaryBeth (Uzzi) Fusaro, and her husband, Michael Fusaro, of Westerly. John was predeceased by his son, John J. Uzzi Jr. He was the loving grandfather to three grandchildren: Christopher M. Fusaro and his wife Amanda, Nicholas J. Fusaro and his wife Ashley and Mikayla M. Fusaro. John was also the proud great-grandfather of Nicholas Michael Fusaro. He was the brother of Eleanor Marsiglio of Westerly and the late Mary Scibilio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 11:00 am at Church of Saint Clare, 62 Crandall Avenue, Misquamicut. There will be no cortege from the funeral home to the church. Burial with full military honors will follow in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly. (03/23/15) Seekonk, MA – Arthur G. “Bud” White, 92, of Seekonk died Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro, MA surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Edith H. (Butler) White. Mr. and Mrs. White would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this coming November 3. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Freelove) White, he had lived in Seekonk for the past 60 years. Mr. White was a self-employed general cleaning contractor for over 50 years before retiring. He was a World War II Army veteran serving with the 43rd Infantry in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Candleberry Chapel, Attleboro, MA and a former member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pawtucket. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Ruth Singletary and her husband, Nolan of Rockledge, FL, Carolyn Palmer of Bowling Green, OH, and Susan White of Seekonk, MA; one son, Jeffrey White and his wife, Janet of North Dighton, MA; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Heather Saad, the great grandfather of the late Ryan Paul Berringer, and the brother of the late June Picci, Gilbert White, Virginia Angevine, Harry Miller, Donald Miller and Glenn Miller. Born in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Florijan and Edwina (Hepke) Malinowski. She was also preceded in death by her brother Stanley. Marcella had a passion for politics, the Patriots, the Red Sox, Foxwoods and life, but most of all her family and friends. Holidays will never be the same without her. (Horta) Resendes, they had been married for 65 years. Born in Taunton, MA, he was a son of the late Manuel and Mary (Alves) Resendes. He resided in West Warwick since 1950. Mr. Resendes was a truck Driver for Michael Frenzi Liquor, Co. for many years before retiring. He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church where he served as the president of the Holy Name Society, a former vice president of the Holy Ghost Society and a member of the Phenix Sportsmen’s Club. Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Barbara A. Battey and her husband Mathieu of West Warwick and a grandson, Charles A. Molineaux, III of West Warwick. (03/24/15) Pawtucket – George P. Welch, Jr., 86, of Pawtucket and formerly of Lincoln, passed away quietly Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at home. He was beloved husband for 48 years of the late Nancy J. (Jagger) Welch. He leaves three children, Carol Cormier and her husband, Mike of Santa Rosa, CA; Arthur Welch and his girlfriend, Kathy of Rohnert Park, CA; and Paul P. Welch and his girlfriend, Hattie of Pawtucket; and his five grandchildren, Kimmy and Kendall Carroll of Santa Rosa, CA; Amanda McGill of Columbus, OH; and Ciara and John Welch of Wakefield. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Welch of New Rochelle, NY. Born in Hartford, CT, a son of the late Colonel George P. Welch and the late Mary E. (Wholey) Welch, he had lived in Lincoln for over 30 years before moving to Pawtucket last May. He was also the brother of the late CIA Station Chief Richard S. Welch. George was a 15 year old student at St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD before becoming the youngest U.S. Army Staff Sergeant to serve in the Korean War. George was a huge sports fan and an avid golfer having been a member of Lincoln Country Club and the R.I. Golf Association for six decades. George worked as a sales representative for Nicholson File, the William K. Toole Company, and Russell Harrington Cutlery before his retirement. Following his retirement, he continued to work well into his 80’s for Cumberland Collision. He was quite handy with a pool cue spending time at his “home away from home”, Snookers in Providence. She was employed for thirty years at Providence College retiring as the Assistant Vice President of Information Technology this past December. (03/21/15) West Warwick – James A. Williamson, Jr., 54, of Wakefield Street, died unexpectedly on Wednesday afternoon at Kent Hospital, Warwick after a three-year illness. He was the beloved husband of Maribeth (Quinn) Williamson, with whom he celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on September 21, 2014, and the loving father of Abigail Quinn Williamson and Samuel James Williamson. Born in Westerly, he was the son of Marjorie L. (Kite) and James A. Williamson, Sr. of West Warwick and the brother of Timothy A. Williamson (Maryanne) and Kristine D. Williamson (Kirk). Jim is also survived by his mother-in-law Martha D. Quinn, sister-in-law Jennifer L. Blansfield (Chris) and brothers-in-law Cameron P. Quinn, Jr. (Deb) and Mark E. Quinn. He also leaves many nieces and nephews who adored him. Jim was the son-in-law of the late Cameron P. \”Ronnie\” Quinn and brother-in-law of the late Jane M. Quinn. Jim was a member of the West Warwick High School Class of 1978. After earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island he worked for the RIDOT for 14 years before purchasing a family business – West Warwick Country Club. At the time of his death he was Assistant to the Superintendent of West Warwick Public Schools, Karen A. Tarasevich. Always active in the community, Jim was current Chairman of the West Warwick Planning Board and a former Chairman of the West Warwick School Committee. Until his death Jim served as Treasurer of the West Warwick Basketball League, West Warwick Cal Ripken League and West Warwick Babe Ruth League. He was a long time member of the West Warwick Wizards Athletic Awards Association. A terrific athlete himself his true passion was coaching and mentoring kids. Some of his proudest moments came as he was guiding Abby’s and Sam’s teams to numerous championships. In recent years Abby joined him on the coaching sidelines and together they continued that championship tradition. She was the beloved mother of Peter Brooks and Anthony Brooks, both of West Warwick and the loving sister of Linda Saran and Joanne DelPrete, both of Warwick. She was also the sister of the late Ronald Merlino. (03/27/15) Francisco Rodriguez-Gutierrez, 64, of Warwick, formerly of North Providence, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Charlesgate Nursing Center, Providence. Born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Pilar and Celestina (Gutierrez) Rodriguez. Francisco was a security guard at Miriam Hospital for twelve years before retiring. He was a Vietnam War Army Veteran, enjoyed fishing, music, playing instruments and dominos. He is survived by five children, Gilbert Green of Providence, Elisha Rodrigues of Swansea, MA, Cindy Gianfrancesco of Warwick, Francisca Rodriguez of West Warwick and Francisco Rodriguez, Jr. of Pawtucket; two brothers, Orlando Rodriguez in Puerto Rico and Felix Rodriguez of Norwalk, CT; two sisters, Lucy Rodriguez in Arizona and Maria Antonia Rodriguez in Puerto Rico; twenty-one grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Committal Service on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 12:30 pm in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery Columbarium Committal Center, 301 South County Trail, Exeter followed by military honors. (03/27/15) Lincoln – Ruth M. (Loynds) Aldrich, 92, of Lincoln passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre, Cumberland. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Aldrich. She was born and raised in Central Falls, the daughter of the late Merrill S. and May (Lancaster) Loynds and the sister of the late Merrill S. Loynds, Jr. For several years, she resided in Lincoln. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Pawtucket where she was involved with the Golden Circle, the Altar Guild, the Mr. and Mrs. Club, and other activities. Over the years, she was employed by Staffos Clothing Store, Pawtucket and Saylesville Warehouse, Lincoln. She leaves her three sons and their wives, Richard and Phyllis of Cumberland, Douglas and Karen of Woonsocket, and David and Deborah of Lincoln; and her grandchildren, Kimberly Allard of Woonsocket, Peter Aldrich of Warwick, Gregg Koutros of Barrington and Glenn Koutros of Cumberland; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Born in Fall River, MA, she was the wife of the late George J. Varatta and the daughter of the late Moran and Frances Camara. Olivia was a homemaker to her loving family.
