He leaves his wife Maria (Cabral de Melo) Carreiro of Fall River; children, Connie Valerio and Luis Carreiro and his wife Kerri, all of Fall River, Herman Carreiro and his wife Wanda of California, Antonio Carreiro and his wife Nicole of Fall River and Paul Carreiro and his wife Karen of Providence; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. (10/26/14) LINCOLN – Richard E. Sheehan, 88, of Curtis Lane, died Saturday, October 25, at the Holiday Retirement Home, Manville. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret \”Peg\” A. (Sullivan) Sheehan. Born in Jamestown, a son of the late Thomas and Katherine (O\’Toole) Sheehan, he had lived in Lincoln since 1967. Mr. Sheehan served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Town of Lincoln for many years. Prior to that, he had served as a teacher in the Jamestown School District, and as Principal of the Garden Hills Elementary School. He retired after serving as Guidance Counselor at the Our Lady of Providence Regional School. He was a graduate, with a B.S., from Franklin & Marshall College; a graduate, with a M.Ed. from Boston University, and graduate, with an A.G.S., from the University of Connecticut. Mr. Sheehan was very active in the community. He was a member of the Jamestown Lions Club, where he was a Charter King Lion. He served on the Parks & Recreation Committee for the Town of Lincoln, and was honored to have the Town Olympics named after him. The Town of Lincoln Richard E. Sheehan Olympics celebrated 40 years this year. He was active with the Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts of America, as well as with the American Legion Post 14, where he also served as manager of their baseball team. He had also served on the Board of Directors at the Boys & Girls Club of Cumberland-Lincoln. A U.S. Navy veteran, he had served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Jude Church. He is survived by one daughter, Ann Kashmanian, and her husband John, of North Providence; three sons, R. Kevin Sheehan, and his wife Angela of Westerly, John J. Sheehan, and his wife Monica, of Oak Park, Ill., and David M. Sheehan of Smithfield; eight grandchildren, Lauren and John Kashmanian, Colin, Kerri, Pierce, Maeve, Emily and Ryan Sheehan; one great-granddaughter, Margaret Kashmanian; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Thomas Sheehan and John Sheehan. His funeral will be held Wednesday, October 29 at 8:45 a.m. from BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln, with the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Burial, with military honors, will be private. She was a hard worker who was devoted to her family. Rhea enjoyed crocheting and needlepoint, square-dancing and in her younger years, roller-skating at the former Bobby’s Rollaway, Pawtucket. She leaves six children, Raymond J. Pouliot and his wife, Mary Jo of East Providence, Normand J. Pouliot, Sr. and his wife, Jo-Ann of Cumberland, Dennis E. Sister Mary Jane Higgins, RSM – Cumberland, RI

(10/30/14) HIGGINS, Sister Mary Jane, 84, formerly known as Sister Marie de Prague, a Sister of Mercy and former educator, chaplain, and spiritual director, died on October 28, 2014 at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield. Born in Dorchester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Dorothy (Francis) Higgins; the sister of Sister Barbara Francis Higgins, O.Carm, and Anthony Higgins in Delaware. Sister Jane entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1948 and professed her final vows in 1953. Early in her religious life, Sister taught in the elementary schools of Sacred Heart, East Providence, Tyler School and St. Patrick’s School in Providence as well as at St. Vincent’s Home in Fall River. She then assumed the principalship at St. Vincent’s, St. Kilian, and Holy Name schools in New Bedford. Sister Mary Jane taught secondary education at Holy Family, New Bedford and at Bishop Stang in North Dartmouth. Following her teaching career, Sister ministered as Chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital in Providence. Using her Master’s degree in spirituality, Sister Jane conducted retreats and spiritual programs both at Emmaus Retreat Center in Uncasville, Ct. and Mercy Center in Madison, Ct. Sister’s great love of the arts enriched her ministry and the lives of all she touched through her unique creativity. She was a poet and enjoyed writing in her journal as well. Being near the ocean and spending time on summer beaches was one of her favorite activities. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 11:00 am in Mount St. Rita Health Centre Chapel, Cumberland. Visitation will be from 9:15 to 10:50 am at Mt. St. Rita with a Mercy Prayer Service at 10:20 am. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Cumberland. (10/31/14) Judith Ann Enos, 73, of Tiverton, RI, wife of Manuel “Sonny” Enos, died Thursday, October 30, 2014. Judy worked at Duro Finishing and later for the Tiverton School Department. In her younger years, Judy enjoyed bike riding with the family, cookouts, long rides to see the fall foliage, and ice cream at Gulf Hill Farm. More recently, Judy cherished family gatherings with her devoted husband, Sonny, her children and grandchildren, and appreciated her frequent visits with her siblings. For those of us who had the opportunity to know her, we will always remember her positive attitude, unselfish concern for others and her bright, loving smile. She will be missed by all, but most of all by “her Sonny”. Besides her husband of 53 years, she leaves four children, Wendy Berube (husband Richard), Tammy Stang (husband Michael), Michael Enos, and Tracey Reynolds, grandchildren Darren, Katelyn, Sara, Lindsey, Andrew, Mikhaila and Adam; siblings Paula Fontes and Ronald Zmuda and nieces and nephews. He served in The United States Air Force and was a graduate of Roger Williams University. He served as president of the Transport Workers Union and was a licensed pilot who flew Newport Aero. (11/01/14) Robert M. LaChance, 89, of Easton, PA, formerly of Swansea, MA husband of the late Doris (Lapointe) LaChance, died Friday, October 31, 2014. An Army veteran of WW II, he studied at Msgr. Prevost High School and owned and operated Rudy’s Country Store, Wilbur Ave., Swansea for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, and playing cards and games. He leaves two children, Robert M. LaChance, Jr. and his wife Jill of Dover, NH and Lisa A. Lopes and her husband Arthur of Easton, PA; grandchildren, Brendan, Joshua and Cory Lopes and Colby, Sam and Aubrie Lyn LaChance and many nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Emile and Helena (Robitaille) LaChance and the brother of the late Juliette Lessard, Lillian Desmarais, Beatrice Golden and Hector “Pat”, Rev. Pierre, Normand, Bertrand, Raymond, Emile, Gerard and Roland LaChance. His funeral will be held Tuesday at 7:45 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass at St. Dominic Church, Swansea at 9:00 AM. Entombment, Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation, Monday, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. (11/01/14) Warwick – Carl E. Eliason, 97, of Packard Avenue died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Alpine Nursing Home, Coventry. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice M. (Stanley) Eliason to whom at the time of her death in 2012 he was married forty-one years. He was the brother of the late Lennart and Sigurd Eliason and is survived by his nephews: Eric Eliason & his wife Carol of Coventry and Carl Eliason & his wife Donna of Jacksonville, FL. Born in Springfield, MA, the son of the late Carl A. and Alma (Peterson) Eliason, he lived in Warwick most of his life. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II serving as a bombardier with the 305th Army Air Force Base Unit. He was a graduate of Bryant College and he attended Brown University. He worked as a tool maker & designer and was President of Eli Engineering Company, Warwick. He was a member of Vasa Order of America Pioneer Lodge #506, Johan Baner Lodge #36 and the last living member of Gustave Adolph Lodge. He was a member of the Verdandi Male Chorus; the American Legion, Providence and a former member of St. Ansgarius Episcopal Church. His life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call one hour prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. (10/25/14) Richard Robillard, 79, of Fall River, a former Truesdale Hospital Chief of Ambulance Services and Retired Director of Fall River Emergency Medical Services, husband of the late Florence (Fisher) Robillard and fiancé of Barbara Gajda of Fall River, died Friday, October 24, 2014. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Fall River Chapter, American Red Cross, a Life Member of the Fall River Lodge of Elks, a member of the National Society of E. M. S. Administrators and the American Association of Trauma Specialists. A former “EMT” Examiner for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, he was also a member of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. Besides his fiancée, he leaves two children, Charlene Robillard of Somerset and Richard A. Robillard of Swansea; grandchildren, Chad and Taylor Robillard; a sister, Mary Wilkerson of Charlottesville, Virginia and nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Hector and Edith (Taylor) Robillard and the brother of the late Edythe Lum, Joseph and Hector Robillard, Jeannette Cabral and Daniel Robillard. Following cremation, his funeral mass will be held Saturday, November 1, at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Church. Richard’s loved ones are grateful to the staffs of Hudner Oncology Center and Steward Hospice. Visitation and flowers omitted. Donations may be made to Good Shepherd Parish, 1598 So.
